VX Journey Mapping: Complete Facilitation Guide

v1.0, July 2026

A full walkthrough for planning and running a voter journey mapping session, including timing, ground rules, discussion prompts, and a journey map template.

How to run it

What it is

A structured, facilitated workshop in which a cross-sector group maps the voter experience across seven stages of the electoral cycle. Groups document what voters, campaigns, and election administrators are each doing, thinking, and feeling, and where their priorities align or diverge.

What you need

3.5 to 4 hours for the full version (a 90-minute abbreviated version covers two to three stages), 8 to 25 participants, a facilitator, sticky notes in at least three colors, markers, the journey map template from the guide, and wall space or a digital whiteboard.

Who it's for

County clerks, campaign teams, civic organizations, nonprofits, research groups, and classrooms. No affiliation with the research project required: the guide is fully self-contained.

Facilitators name their own specific target voters as preparation. Sample persona cards covering the top voting and non-voting blocs are included in the guide as an optional fallback.
